The risk of wearing false eyelashes

The most common problems associated with wearing fake eyelashes include: eye injuries and infections, allergic reactions, and damage to your natural lashes. In other words, don’t risk your eyesight for the sake of experimentation or vanity.

However, if you must sport this look, try to keep your eyes safe by:

  • Limiting the amount of glue used
  • Avoiding lashes with glitter or jewels
  • Gently removing the lashes
  • Cleaning the eyelid after removing the lashes
  • Avoiding glue with formaldehyde
  • Not sharing your lashes with others

Sometimes things go wrong, despite our best efforts to be prudent with our eye care. In the event you wear false lashes and experience an adverse reaction, be on the lookout for the following symptoms and seek care as soon as possible:

  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Soreness
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Discharge
  • Fever
  • Blurred vision
  • Swelling
