Facial Skin Care Basics: 4 Easy Steps to a Healthy Skin

It’s never too late to build your skin care kit. Everybody’s skin type is different but rest assured, this easy 4-step routine is the basic rule for everybody. Before we get started, how do you determine what type of skin do you have?

Whether you have dry, normal, combination or oily skin, finding your type is very simple. First look at how your skin feels after washing it. If your skin feels tight it's likely to be dry while oily skin will feel greasy and shiny all over. Normal skin will feel balanced - not too dry or too oily. You may notice that your T-zone (the forehead, nose, and chin) is oilier than the rest of your skin. That would tell you, you have combination type.

Regardless of the type, here are the 4 basics of your skin care kit you should follow dutifully:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Moisturize
  4. Protect

Cleanse

In this step you remove dirt and makeup from your skin twice a day in the day and in the night. Apply the cleanser over your skin with your hands, brush or preferred method and make sure all parts of your skin are covered. Then rinse completely.

Most cleansers are either gels, lotions, foams or milks. Depending on your skin type some are more efficient than others. If you have oily skin, avoid foam cleansers because they will dry out your skin more. If you have oily skin, avoid milk cleansers. Try to find the cleanser that best matches your skin.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a critical step to remove dead skin cells and make a way for new healthy ones. It removes the dead skin cells that can block pores and cause breakouts, pimples and blackheads. Exfoliate after cleansing your face once to three times per week depending on your skin type (if your skin is dry exfoliate less).

There are two main types of exfoliants: physical and chemical. A physical exfoliant is a face scrub with rough little bits of materials usually made from natural ingredients like nuts, stones, plants or plants extracts. The chemical uses type of acids like AHAs and BHAs (aka hydroxyl acids) to gently dissolve away dead skin cells.

Moisturize

The application of moisturizer daily at day and night is critical for keeping skin hydrated and preventing flaking and dullness. Facial massagers are helpful in enabling the lotions and serums to be absorbed by your skin more efficiently. This is something that Arishine has embraced with every massager that we develop.

A tip to applying moisturizer is to go by the texture of the product starting with the more liquid ones first. For example if you use a treatment serum, your routine would usually involve a cleanser, serum, and moisturizer followed by sunscreen.  Adjust to the seasons. On hot summer days when your face is oily you could apply a gel moisturizer that is more liquid while on winter days when your skin tends to drier, you can chose to apply thicker creams. Do not forget to add an eye cream to your hydration routine.

Protect

What you have done to pamper your skin would be wasted if you don’t protect it with SPF. Daily use of sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater (even on cloudy days) is vital for keeping skin younger-looking, protected, and resilient.

Follow these routine and there is no doubt your skin will be healthier and radiant in a matter of days.
